Videos for our evaluation.

Question One:

Question Two:

Question Four + Seven:

:

Question 3
the answer to question 3 is...
For the distribution of the media product, we would include institution like...
  • The Cinema
  • Schools
Me and Sophie would distribute the video by putting it on the internet on social networking sites like youtube and facebook as they are more popular to the teenage market that we are aiming for.
Question 5
For our audience, we addressed and attracted them by sending out questionnaries and putting up flyer's. We also looked at the representation for the characters to get more of a response and more attention from the ayudience. To make our film opening visually interesting we used a variety of shots ranging from extreme close-ups to long shots. When the audience sees the devil child as murderous intentions they become engaged in the storyline as it is an unexpected twist and the suspense leads them to keep watching. We hope to attract our audience’s attention through a series of juxtapositions.
Question 6
The Mac computers in the college (media pit) that we used had the programme from the mac that we were instructed to use from the teachers, which is what we used in order to make our film. It's a piece of software I've never used before, but now feel quite confident with. We experimented with the colours from the camera shots and experimented with the fonts, sounds etc, as to make a more effective peice.

Lesson 29th of April

For today's lesson, me and Sophie went outside and started to do our evaluation. As yesterday I was ill, Sophie started to prepare the evaluation by the question's; making notes and adding titles to the project on her net book. As the deadline is 3pm on Friday the 30th of April.
These are the evaluation piece me and Sophie did today.

----NOT COMPLETED ---

As awaiting for the video's to upload...
They will be uploaded by tonight.

23rd of April

In today's lesson, me an Sophie secured the audience feedback by making sure that the two people, of a similar age range was able to do some audience feedback. On Monday or Tuesday me and Sophie will be conducting our audience research. This will be done, through the lunch period or through the break period as we will have more time and it will be quieter as apposed to when the class is in the room. Also we will be doing this at break or dinner as it means that the people who will be in the research, will be able to come with out coming out of classes and so Emma and Dan won't e embarrassed to be recorded with people watching.

Audience Feedback

For the audience feedback, we will be asking one boy and girl of the similar age to watch the film. The two people will be Emma Richards (who co starred in the miniature production of the opening sequence to "Re-Incarnation: The List) and a boy. For the boy there are four different possibilities. They are...
  • Daniel Lee Wood
  • Andrew Scott
  • Jake Crewe
  • Bruce Astill

At break, we will be asking these boys to see if they would participate as it would be against the law and legislation's to make them participate.

For the audience feedback we will be asking two people to watch the opening to our short production. Then me and Sophie will be asking them the following questions and ask them to elaborate on them. The questions are...

1. What did you think of the opening sequence?

2. What would you say the age range is and why?

3. If you seen this opening sequence on a social networking site like Face book/Bebo or on YouTube would you want to watch the rest?

4. If you could change one thing on it, what would it be?

5. What genre would you categorise this as?

6.What are the strengths and weakness' of the opening sequence?

7. Any extra comments?

Evaluation Task

For the rest of the week, and next we me and Sophie will be planning our evaluation. As for the evaluation the questions we are going to be answering today are...
1. In what does your media product challenge forms and conventions of products?
2. Hows does your media product represent particular social group?
3. What kind of media institutions must distribute your media product? Why?
4. Who would you attract /address your audience?
5. What have you learnt about technology's from the process of constructing this product?
6. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in this progression from it to the final media product?
7. Who would be the target audience for your media product?
In today's lesson, me and Sophie Brown came up with a range of idea's of how to put the evaluation on the blog. Me and Sophie came up with about 9 different idea's of how to go about the way of putting the evaluation on the blog. The deadline for our evaluation is the 30Th of April.
  • These are the idea's that we have came up with...
Type it up - If we do this it isn't a good way of showing the different technological elements. As to type it up would also show a low level of computer skill.

  • A Video of both of us either having a discussion or answering questions on a mobile phone.

  • A video on the mac - with a directory commentary.

  • A Miniature video- like the final piece more like a video

  • Voice over whilst at settings

  • Screen Grabs from existing media and from our miniature film.

  • The target audience speaking
  • A PowerPoint - with maybe a voice over or different slides of us talking on a video

Either way, me and Sophie will not being using a conventional idea of having an essay, also we wont be reading out an essay as you need the skill as not to sound boring and not to sound unrehearsed and strict.

These are the technological elements we intend to use.

Storyboard

For the storyboard, I did the storyboard but it would take too many images to put upon the blog. So here us the first few shots. for the storyboard as it is compulsory the storyboard is in the video's that me and Sophie took earlier this week.

Up Date from Last Night

These are the video's me and Sophie did last night. We did seven video's last night.

All of them have me talking as in class we had a plan of where to film and a script.

Video Concerns - parental consent

As for our video, it involves my little cousins I made sure that I got parental consent and if it was okay to put it on the internet. My Aunty Karan and Uncle Robert was perfectly fine with me using Philippa and Marcus in my media production. As it was okay with my Aunty Karan and Uncle Robert we will be putting it on the blog when we have finished editing. If we didn't obtain the parental consent then we would of changed our idea completely even though this wasn't the case.

Shooting Schedule - New

For our shooting schedule we planned to all or the most part of our filming on saturday the 20th Of March. As of the weather, we had little time to shoot all though we got most of it done. The weather for the staturday was ...

Not Completed.

For the editing we plan to use all of our media lessons this week and maybe stay after school to try and complete it.

Sound Effects - New

As we had a double free this morning me and Sophie Brown got a laptop out and decided to play around with some of the sound effects. For our media production of an opening to the thriller.

This is the list of the possible sound effects we needed to look at...
  • A Scream
  • Walking
  • Splashes
  • A Phone Ring Tone
  • A Scream
  • A creaking door handle
  • A Loud Bang
  • A Mixture of sounds - to create tension.

As I have media today, we will be experimenting the sound effects, whilst also editing.

Idea's For Title - New

As we were doing a completely different idea, we decided to take a new approach towards the title front too. As our thriller is about a little girl being possessed by a demon and killing or harming those who make it to her list.

These are the titles we came up with at my house on the 20th of March. They are...
  1. Mentalised.
  2. Re-Incaenation
  3. The List
  4. Demon Child
  5. The Disturbed
  6. The Betrayl

As we couldn't make up our mind, we decided upon the idea for the title to be a mixture of the two title idea's, The List and Re-Incarnation.

Our Final Title Idea is ...

Re-Incarnation : The List

To come up with this idea we created a thopught shower, although for the thought shower I will add a picture later on of it as I don't have my USB lead to connect my phone to the laptop.

Settings New

These are the pictures of the settings. The settings we used were...
This is the bridge were we did 1/3 of the filming.

This is underneath the bridge where we did a further 1/3 of the filming.

This is my house where we did the final 1/3 of the filming.

Not Completed....

Character Profiles New

The characters we used were...

  • A Little Girl - Played by My Eldest cousin Philippa {Aged 9, 10 In October}. The little girl with a vengeance. Or as one of the actors Emma Richards said "A Girl With A Lust For Blood, Death and Violence."
  • An Innocent Little Boy called Jake - Played by my youngest cousin Marcus {Aged 6, 7 in June}. The Innocent little boy is seen playing aeroplanes and seems to be happy. The little boy's name came about when I asked my cousins what he wanted it to be called. Also the name Jake would be easy to remember as it is my brothers name and it was my cousins best friend.

  • The Victim - This character hasn't got a name, as she isn't that important though she has a black eye and she has one line "its true". This is to demonstrate how the little girl operates and it add effectiveness to the opening to the thriller.

This is the pictures of them ...

This is Philippa:
This is Phillippa and Marcus at christmas 2007.

This is Marcus.

This is Emma: ... Not Completed.

Props - New

This is the list of props that we used...

  • My Dog - Barney - He's a caverlier king charles. We used him as my cousin was a little bit camera shy and wanted someone or something in the shot with her. She chose Barney, as Storm kept running off and Barney was settled in that position already. This is Barney

  • A Moblie Phone - The mobile phone was a Samsung. We used this to add effect and drama to that particular scene.

  • A Light Bulb and Lamp Shade- We used this to add effect.

  • A Log - This was used to kill the little boy (played by Marcus {Aged 6})

  • A Gate - Where the little boy was pushed against and finally killed.

  • A Door Handle - To Add effect

After we filmed our shots, we decided that we needed to add a Photo board, to add more of an effect and more of a stalker potentional to the thriller to meet the conventions.

Risk Assessments - New

For our new production idea, we needed to follow out some more risk assessments on the new settings that we are currently working in.

The settings are:
  • My House- When we are in the front room we need make sure not to knock anything off, otherwise we would have to pay for it or buy a new one, and we might not be able to film there again. All though in this case we didn't break anything, we borrowed the camera corder and the tri-pod for the weekend and we returned it this morning.

  • Under The Bridge/By The Bridge When we were filming by the bridge, it was very low and someone could hit their head as they walked in, this could really hurt someone. Also, there was a huge puddle so we had to be careful when we carried the camera across because it could either slip out of the tripod, or it could be dropped. Then we would have to pay for it.

  • In The Woods/Forest- When we were in the forest it was very slippery and it was raining at the time so we had to take extra care where we put the equipment.

Fonts - New

As we have taken a new angle towards the intitial idea, we decided to rethink the font styles. As when you first watch a film, the audience are given an indication of the genre. The font style/type would give the film and the atmosphere towards the film before it had even begun.

This font style is called Slammertag, this was the font we was hoping to use in our other idea. This at the moment is our favourite font so far as it creates the effect that the title is scratched in and therefore also gives an indication of the genre and it gives an eerie atmosphere. Thsis also could be linked to the title from the film "The Ring" which is also another thriller that competes in the traditional and conventions of a thriller.

This font style, is called trading post bold, which is from the same website http://www.1001freefonts.com/, personally I like this title as it gives more of a eerie start, the block capitals therefore giving the indication of a thriller, though it reminds me of the all time classics of films like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

This is the final font, this font is called Cretino font. We thought this would be a good idea for a font as it gives an illusion that the film could be a re-enactment of an old style film lke a western or of a thriller that isn't very physicological.

Overall the font that we are going to use is ...
SLAMMERTAG :)

Me and Sophie created this logo in our free using macromedia fireworks. It is called studio productionz with three dots underneath.

Here it is...

Filming - 20th March 2010

We did filming on the 20th March 2010 at about 2:30pm.
The people who were here was:
  • Phillippa
  • Sophie
  • Jodie
  • Debbie
  • Emma

Phillippa is the main actor, who is 9 years old.

As the opening is about a little girl being posessed or being re-encarnated we thought that Phillippa would be best suited for the role.

The rest of us are coaching and also doing other things.

New Idea

Re-incarnation– a child playing in the park with a smile though alone. Close up that says “I’m never Alone” A story of a little girl haunted by her past. Re-incarnated as a girl, before she was a woman- serial killer going after those who betrayed her. Flash Backs to show her past and give a sense of understanding.
Actress : My Little Cousin - Phillippa

The Idea Didn't Work

As my group was brought together on this saturday morning, the idea failed. Therfore me and Sophie came up with a different idea and approach. This staurday, this is our plan devised with two other friends called Debbie and Emma.
Plan For Saturday ...
  • Idea
  • Filming
  • Storyboarding
  • Sound Effects.

I will keep you up dated on what we may accomplish.

Character Profile 2 - Final Clothing

This is what the outfit would look like, completed with a hat.

The character of ChloƩ played by Sophie Brown.
The Hat that we will be using. For the costum there would be costum neckalces and other items of jewellery. Make-up will also be used therefore the typical stereotype of a chav girl going to a party will be deminished.

Planning For The Label

These are the pictures from our work

These are the idea's overall that we thought of.

These are our other peices of work. As we decided that as the genre needed to be indicated at the first shot, but not with the errie sound effects. As in my research I found that dreamworks had three different types of first shot to show the genre, we decided to design other genres. One for childrens - indicated by the bears and one for a romantic film indicated by love hearts. This is our final design, though with a black background .

16th Of March

For today's work, we was planning to film although Sophie (a member of our group) isn't here. Therefore today's lesson we started to do a script and discuss what is going to happen in the future lessons. Also we planned out what clothing there was. We also thought of the weather for when we are filming. This is what we found...

As we are filming on the saturday, if the weather is correct then it will be the perfect for the correct filming.

Other Thriller Idea's

Whilst thinking of idea's, in my free lesson on the 19th of January 2010 I came up with some different idea's. Whilst I was sorting out my other work in my free lesson today I came across my old work. These are the idea's that I came up with...

Thriller Idea’s for Coursework

Re-incarnation– a child playing in the park with a smile though alone. Close up that says “I’m never Alone” A story of a little girl haunted by her past. Re-incarnated as a girl, before she was a woman- serial killer going after those who betrayed her. Flash Backs to show her past and give a sense of understanding.
The Hidden Truth/The Burried Truth- The woman is living in an abandoned shed or flat, flash backs of her happy and then a scream with blood splatters. The woman’s face is shown scared and rocking in fear as there are footsteps and then a bang. The screen goes black and the tittle comes up with a heart beat sound over the top.
The Hunt for Truth- New family moves into a house that is haunted. It was sold cheap as of its reputation of people killed on site whilst there was no information of how they were murdered or died. The ghost of the people haunt them to the atic where they are locked in the atic for 2 weeks until the truth is revealed or they die.

Makeup Ideas

This is the make-up idea's for the character of ChloƩ
As the make-up for the character played by Sophie Brown, the make-up would be natural though to make it stand out. Here are some make-up idea's that we found on the internet.

.
Not Completed.

Tuesday, 9 March 2010

Consideration's about Labels.

Our production name is "Student Productionz", this would be written in the font Slammertag from the website http://www.1001freefonts.com/

With the name, we thought of different idea's to go along with the name. These are the idea's..

  • Bars - Signify the prision or the mental institution

  • A Face that is faded - therefore creating the effect of a fading memory

  • A mixture of number or Question marks therefore creating the effect of mystry or a questionable offense.
  • Ski - Limitless?

  • Lights- This could suggest glamour or even escapism.

Examples of Previous company logo's.

When creating a logo there is different ways of taking the logo.

To the audience this could suggest an indication towards Hollywood as it is glamourous and golden therefore suggesting wealth and famousness.

Dream Works have three different representations of there logo. The top one is used when filming a childrens animations like the Disney Pixer Film "Up." This could be read from the childish colour scheme and the balloon. The middle one is used to represent maybe a romantic film, this could be read from the colour purple as it is quite a luxiourious and romantic type. The bottom picture could suggest that it is maybe a thriller or maybe a film that isn't suitable for children like in "Disturbia" This could be connoted by the little boy not being in it.
Universal could suggest that the film is open towards anyone and also that the film can't be graded on a scale as like the outter space, it is limitless.

When creating our production lable, loads of things need to be considered as all of the films produced has different genres but the same production lable. The lable will ofcourse make some influence, though the logo I'm going to create will take in everything of what alone the logo could do.

Thursday, 4 March 2010

Costums, Props and Settings

During the production stage, we decided that we needed a list of props for the thriller 'Mentalized.' This is our work we did in class...

  • Prop 1 - This is a letter that is used for the last 6 shots. This is to show and tie in the loose ends. Also it gives a edge to the openning of a film.

  • Prop 2 - This is a mixture of papers with love hearts with Damen in them.

  • Prop 3- This is a mixture of glasses, bottles, balloons, banners and cans as to symbolise a party that is going on. The drinks from the bottles and cans are seen to be alchol though ofcourse this wouldn't be the case. It would only be used to create versimilitude in the idea that they are drinking at a party as thats what mosts of the people at a party does.

Settings - Final Area's.
  • Main Road near Glen Parva (The prison area)
  • Glen Parva Bridge (Near the Prison)

  • My House (Near the prison)

Party Guest who calls the 911: Alex Symdonds.
Not Completed.

Final Settings

Friday after college I walked around the estate and I walked around the area's where the openning could be set. I took pictures of the definate settings.

My House:

My Estate (The Road as well)

Countesthorpe Community College Classrooms (Media Pit)

My Friends House - For the last 5 or so shots.

Along with the pictures I decdied to do a video of them too. Here it is...

Not Completed.

Storyboard Final - Video

The video's are taken on my mobile phone so the quality isn't every high. These video's are all of my storyboard though broken up as my mobile phone isn't very good at keeping a long time video's.

Shot 1

Shot 2 - 10

Shot 11 - 20 Plus Extra's

Shot 21 - 25

Influences

In this post, I will be explaining how the idea of our thriller was created and how the thriller created may of had some influences. The film was thought up with an influence of some elements with previous films and previous books.

Influences:

  • The Idea to use a stereotypical image of a 'Chav' orginated from the well known film "Kidulthood" which came out in 2006.

  • The idea of using an urban background came from the film "Panic Room" which I did on my analyse.

  • The idea of using a mentalized patient could of been stemmed from the film brought out in 2009 called "Orphan"

  • The idea of using teenagers in the film is also from the film "Kidulthood" "Shifty" and also as in the startd of Year 12, we studied facts of what age group mainly goes to the cinema, therefore teenagers was the most popular people to go.

  • The idea of using simple though urban settings is from "Shifty" and also could be located to the well known film "Disturbia"

  • The idea's could also be stemmed from the song by Eminem called "Toy Soliders" and the song "Hold On" by Neverstore and Lazee.

  • The idea could also be stemmed from our own previous experience and maybe from experiences witnessed on the news.

Certificate's For Mentalized

On the basis of the audience research and the film Mentalized, we have decided that the film certificate to be give would be a 15. This is becasue of all of the pychological elements and the other reason being of the scenes, one of them being a stabbing therefore it could be too graphic for under 15 year olds. The reason why Mentalized isn't an 18 is because an 18 states that the film would have to be sexually explicit scenes, very strong language, violence and graphic scenes. Which Mentalized doesn't involve any of them. The odd occasion swear word may be used and the stabbing scene but thats it. Though in the stabbing scene, the camera would be taken away from the body as like in the conventional thrillers. A 12 would be too young as the themes would be too complicated and too violent - therefore a younger audience wouldn't detach themselves unlike the older audience.

The reason for this as well would be that the target audience that we are aiming at are the 15 to 21 year olds. This is good for the demographic ages that we are aiming at. Our film I believe is mainly attracted to male's rather than females. However this wouldn't be a problem for girls to attend either.

We have noted that our film Mentalized may not be suited for everyone as a thriller (maybe even a psychological) as it takes a lot of thinking and consentrating. Also this may not be suited to everyone as thrillers are not everyones favourite genre. On the other hand our film follows some conventions whilst defying soem conventions and following certain stereotypes whilst in a way either juxapositing the stereotypes or defeating the comman stereotypes. I hope this attraction of follow and defying attracts a wider audience.

Risk Assessments

For the settings we have chosen, risk assessments need to be carried out. The places we have chosen is my house, the college of Countesthorpe Community College, the roads in South Wigston or Glen Parva and maybe filming near the bridge in Glen Parva (near the prison way). whilst I was looking around the area's we have chosen to film in and the shots of which has been drawn up, there is a low level of risk that could happen. Any risks that may arise, will be taken care of in a manor that is safe and that doesn't injure anyone. . There are not many risks involved in our filming process however these are the ones that exist.

The Bridge In Glen Parva - Though there may not be any filming there. If the filming does occur then it wont be near the bridge. The risk with the bridge is that the bridge is very high and there is quite a risk of someone whilst filming falling off. Or even dropping equipment over the bridge. To stop this there is barriers put up to stop anyone falling and standing away from the edge will stop any risk.

Filming At my House - If dropped the electrics in the camera could stop working therefore any responsibility taken will be taken in the hands of us as we could of agreed and signed to protect and pay for the camera if in our care.

Filming Near A Road - This could cause a problem to anyone driving as they could become destracted therefore we would inform the people near my estate as to what we would be doing and make sure that it would be okay. If not we would simply move to an isolated area were there is no accidents that could occur.

Planning For Setting

For the planning, we decided to take a series of shots from a mobile phone and off the internet to create an image of what the openning could be likened too. The shots taken were of a park, road, school, house, corridor, estate of where one of us lives, an urban area, a pub, and a grave yard. These are the images taken in colour as they show the effect more and has no confusion on the genre. These images are just guide lines for what the area's for filming could be.
